The Municipality of Easter Island- Rapa Nui operates based on principles and values that guide the municipality's actions towards a sustainable community, embodied in the acronym "Plan AMOR". This plan is logically, practically, and conceptually designed to drive the development of the community, emphasizing Autosustainability, Continuous Improvement, and Innovation in service to the people, to identify Integral Development Opportunities, and to optimize resources efficiently, with solidarity and transparency, all while showing deep Respect for individuals, culture, the ecosystem, and integrity, to lead Rapa Nui towards a future of complete integration with economic development and social equity in support of living culture and ancestral heritage preservation.

United Nations 2030 Agenda:

Rapa Nui is a mirror territory of the United Nations 2030 Agenda. Through the development and implementation of Plan AMOR, collaborative work with the UN is established to achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) outlined in the 2030 Agenda. The UN Coordinator's Office has committed, through the deployment of its agencies, to position Rapa Nui as a Mirror Territory of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), aiming to apply these goals, defined by the 193 Member States, to improve human life quality and protect the planet from Climate Change.

AUTOSUSTENTABILIDAD (Sustainability)

The central objective is the sustainable development of Rapa Nui. The goal is to build a balanced society that focuses on the well-being of the individual and their environment. To achieve this, concepts defining Rapa Nui cultural identity are emphasized, guiding us towards a healthy, conscious, and accountable community capable of harmonious coexistence across generations.

Specific Objectives:

- Promote food sovereignty

- Ensure ecosystem balance

- Strengthen cultural values and the use of the Rapa Nui language

- Promote energy and water efficiency

- Enhance waste management

- Drive sustainable tourism

MEJORAS CONTINUAS (Continuous Improvements)

Continued progress is fundamental for sustainable community development. To this end, participation, knowledge gathering, management, and training are emphasized; progress is made in creating more and better spaces, enhancing the efficiency and strength of institutions, and fostering collaboration among them.

Specific Objectives:

- Promote Citizen Participation

- Generate Training Opportunities

- Create and Promote inclusive community-use spaces

- Develop and enhance sustainable mobility systems

OPTIMIZACIÓN DE RECURSOS (Resource Optimization)

The resilient history and geographic location of Rapa Nui underscore the importance of resource optimization. The goal is to enhance reciprocity, efficiency, and cooperation based on the Rapa Nui worldview, aiming to develop a circular economy.

Specific Objectives:

- Promote conscious use of available resources

- Build local, national, and international networks and alliances

- Foster a circular economy

RESPETO "MO'A"  (Respect "MO'A")

Respect is the essential value of Rapa Nui cultural identity that must be promoted and instilled to guide and enhance our work in Resource Optimization and Continuous Improvements to develop a self-sustaining Rapa Nui. "Mo'a" encompasses our work and represents an attitude of respect towards ancestors, the environment, social and cultural values from the past, and respect for the sea, sky, land, and children. This ancestral principle is essential for cultural development and maintenance.

- Promote self-care at different stages of life

- Promote inclusion and good Coexistence

- Strengthen family support

The Municipalidad of Rapa Nui has committed to meeting the goals and indicators proposed for the fulfillment of the UN Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. Achieving these goals will greatly advance sustainability, improving the quality of life for both the community and visitors. Actions to achieve the SDGs aim to preserve living culture and ancestral heritage of Rapa Nui, as part of the paradigm shift regarding mass tourism that has developed on the island over the past 20 years. Rapa Nui holds a unique cultural, biocultural, and natural heritage globally, making its preservation everyone's responsibility. Preserving our cultural and natural heritage is essential for the continuity of our living and ancestral culture.
