Diving & snorkeling

The underwater world is a separate universe, and Rapa Nui is no exception. In our seas, you can enjoy various activities such as boat trips, scuba diving, and snorkeling, experiences that will bring you closer to this unexplored universe.

Towards the Motu area, small islets located southwest of Rapa Nui, named Motu Kao-Kao, Motu Iti, and Motu Nui, you can explore by boat and practice snorkeling. For this activity, you will need a wetsuit - depending on the season -, fins, and a mask to appreciate the beautiful underwater cliffs of the area in one of the waters with the highest visibility on the planet, reaching up to 70%.

Diving in the Motu area is only permitted if you have a license due to the depth of this area, which reaches 60 meters. However, you can do introductory dives at other points on the island. If you need information, you can find dive centers in the Haŋa Roa and Haŋa Piko areas.

During these excursions, you can observe endemic fish with bright colors and visit a variety of corals in different parts of the island. Adding to this great attraction are the sea turtles that swim both in the Haŋa Roa bay and the Haŋa Piko bay. We recommend observing them and maintaining a prudent distance of at least 10 meters if you are in the water near them. Additionally, it is advisable not to feed or touch them, as they can transmit diseases such as salmonella.
