Rapa Nui offers a wide range of activities, and for those who enjoy extreme sports, surfing can be an alternative to consider. The island's sea is possibly one of the best for practicing this sport, and the waves in the Motu Hava area, in Haŋa Roa, are ideal for beginners.
For more experienced surfers, depending on the time of year, they can go to the Mataveri or Tahai area where the waves are more challenging and the risk increases. It is worth noting that the water temperature varies between 18° and 26° degrees Celsius, so in summer you can surf with just a UV-protective shirt, and in winter a 3mm wetsuit is sufficient.
